So, if you're reading this and have not yet visited San Francisco, you need to come out here just for the fun bars! Wednesday night (after the scary attack chronicled below), I got in a cab and headed downtown to Slide to meet my friend Joe (who actually has emotions and feelings, not to be confused with Joseph Slattery). His friend Steve had a table reserved with bottle service (read: free Grey Goose and a server who comes over and mixes your drinks at the table for you) and there was supposedly a good DJ there so I figured, why not?
Y'all, this bar has a literal slide from the street level down to the bar level, which is in the basement. You can't go down it if you're in heels, apparently, but otherwise you're free to slide on down if you don't want to take the stairs. How fun is that?
Of course, there's also Bigfoot Lodge where some of you have been with me. Unfortunately no out-of-towners have ever been there when they set the bar on fire, but it's definitely a fun novelty. And their signature drink is a minty delight called a Girl Scout Cookie. They also have a Toasted Marshmallow drink and a Sasquatch drink. You have to love the ginormous wooden Bigfoot and their amazing jukebox selection.
And there's another place I haven't visited yet but plan to ASAP. It's called Bourbon & Branch, and you have to have a reservation to drink there. When you make your reservation, they give you a password that you say into an intercom to get in. No signs, no nothing. It's supposed to be just like an old speakeasy and has pressed tin ceilings and 20's era decor. When you go inside, there's another password that gets you through a bookshelf "wall" into the Library. And the word bourbon is in the name. Sounds like my kind of place. Sara, shall we make this a stop when you're out here at the end of April?? :)
